6/1/2010 A New London Man Charged in Waterford “Cold Case Homicide.” A New London man was arrested today and charged with Murder as a result of a “Cold Case” investigation into the homicide of a woman found dead on a dead-end street in Waterford nearly 13 years ago.
DICKIE E. ANDERSON, JR., age 40 of 26 Prospect Street, New London, was arrested on a warrant today charging him with a single count of Murder in the death of 41-year-old Renee Pellegrino. The victim’s body was found by Waterford Police on June 25, 1997, on Waterford Parkway South, a dead-end street in a rural area. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined she had been strangled, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Mr. Anderson, who was 27 years old at the time of the crime, was arrested as a result of an investigation conducted by the Southeastern Connecticut Cold Case Unit. The arrest warrant has been sealed by order of the court and no additional details will be released at this time. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New London. The Southeastern Connecticut Cold Case Unit was established in October 2009 to investigate homicides and other crimes that have gone “cold,” or unsolved over a prolonged period of time. The unit includes investigators from the Town of Groton Police Department, City of Groton Police Department, New London Police Department, Norwich Police Department, Stonington Police Department, Waterford Police Department, Connecticut State Police, the State of Connecticut Department of Correction, the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New London and the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Windham.
